EDUCATION
Directory of Japanese Canadian Resources
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Asian Canadians faced a surge in racism, leaving many, especially elderly Asian Canadians, fearful of community participation. Concerns about the lack of awareness regarding Japanese-Canadian contributions and experiences prompted the Edmonton Japanese Community Association (EJCA) to establish the Committee Advocating for Racial Equality (CARE). CARE identified a need to address racial inequality through education, focusing on increasing knowledge about Japanese Canadians in Alberta schools. Their efforts led to the creation of this Directory, aimed at promoting awareness, reducing racism, and fostering a greater understanding of the Japanese-Canadian community’s history and contributions.
